Ocean Blue Adventures and the Qolweni development trust would like to inform all our clients that we are not at all affected by the xenophobia attacks that developed in all the major cities.
We will continue promoting Qolweni as the Safest Township in South Africa, we offer specialized guided walking tours through the township and will maintain our standard and vision of a better South Africa and hope that people will not establish Qolweni with what has taken place in and around our cities.
Our tours run daily on the hour from 09h30, we are grateful to those companies who have continued with their township tours. A special thank you to Akilanga for your non stop trust and support throughout May and June.
EXPERIENCE BREATHTAKING MARINE ENCOUNTERS!
All tours are guided
with expert crew and tour operators who are internationally qualified.
Call us today for a booking or more advice. Ocean Blue is a licensed
SABBWWA permit holder, which enables us to approach whales from 50
metres instead of 300 metres. Should the whales approach our vessel we
do not have to move away. The guests therefore get an up close
experience with these majestic mammals in the bay.
Eco-Tourism
Ocean
Blue Adventures, is the original company in South Africa to conduct
professional conservation orientated whale and dolphin marine
eco-tours. In Cooperation with the Qolweni Community Development Trust
the emphasis of all our operations is placed on Conservation through
Community Development, Education and Research. Ocean Blue Adventure's
aim is to give a holistic real marine
experience to all our guests
aimed at raising awareness of Marine Mammal Conservation and the direct
need to realistically conserve our oceans which include :
- Sponsor A Child
- Whale, Dolphins and Seals
- Pelagic and other Seabirds
- Sharks and Fish
- Local Geology
- Maritime and Local History
We are one of only a few proud holders of a specialist permit (COVERS 3RD PARTY,
INSURANCE ETC) which allows us (when possible) to carefully approach
our whales, offering our guests the unequalled opportunity of a really
up-close and personal encounter with these majestic animals. Ocean Blue
Adventures prides itself on the experienced qualifications and
enthusiasm of our informative guides (naturalists) as well as our vast
knowledge and passion for our marine environment. As they are wild
mammals and we are visiting them in their own territory, we are acutely
aware of not encroaching on them and we strive to ensure that they
remain totally wild and unharassed. For more information on our tours
and sightings please view our Tour itinerary page.
On all of our tours our guests' comfort and safety is of paramount
importance, our custom-built craft are fully equipped with life
jackets, including children's, and all necessary safety equipment, high
quality warm and waterproof all-weather gear is provided, as is sun
block and refreshments.

Humpback, Southern Right & Brydes Whales
The Southern Right Whales can be seen in our waters during the winter
months, June to October when they migrate from their sub Antarctic
feeding grounds to our sheltered bay to give birth, raise calves and
breed. They are slow moving but give spectacular displays of breaching,
lob tailing and spy hopping. From mid June to October we see the
Humpback Whales on their annual migration from the Antarctic to their
breeding grounds of Madagascar and Mozambique. The Bryde's Whales are
permanent residents, to be seen all year round along our coastline.
(Research Project Pending). Minke Whales and other Rare Species are
also occasional visitors and on three occasions we have seen seven
cetacean species on one trip.

Dolphins & Orcas (or Killer Whales)
Dolphins, Throughout the whole year you can observe the playful and
very active Bottlenose Dolphins, which are often encountered in large
groups. The rare and shy Indopacific Humpback Dolphin is a worldwide
endangered species and small pods live along our coastline. The
fascinating Common Dolphins, very agile and one of the fastest
swimmers, occur in large groups of 2000 or more individuals, further
out on the open sea. Orcas or Killer Whales, which also belong to the
dolphin family are transient in this ocean and occur occasionally
throughout the year.
Seals and Sharks
Seals, A large and very active colony of Cape Fur Seals lives
permanently on the Robberg Peninsula and they can be seen in and around
the bay and are endemic to South Africa. Sharks, apart from the
famous Great White Sharks, we encounter Hammerheads, Ragged Tooth and Maco Sharks.
Seabirds
Along our coastline we see the African Black Oyster Catcher, South
Africa's second most endangered coastal bird, as well as Gull,
Cormorant and Tern Species. Further out to sea we regularly encounter
many fascinating Pelagic Birds : Albatross, Petrels, Shearwaters, Cape
Gannets
